we are brother jack, allright

what with people jumping ship

alighting on our sand

then we take an interest

in what's otherwise too slow

political prance and tuck and cut

is not our favourite show

argue to and fro

about uninteresting wars

and we'll not even lift our heads

to hear about the cause

but let us have an issue

where the cake is cut too small

we'll read it, write it, live it

like our backs are to the wall

banks can screw us blindly

the dollar augers low

imports eat away at us

in their steady flow

we'll talk of education

of medicare and tax-guides

but if we're well and comfortable

we'll stay put on our backsides

the reason for this attitude

where we're slow to be incensed

is that we've conquered all the dollars

and won't quibble with the cents

but try to give out landrights

or migrants slipping in

we'll drop our quiet cuppa

and we'll start joining in

if you owned half a company

owned by your family and heirs

you'd not let the directors

issue twice as many shares

so that you now owned a quarter

the new ones owned the rest

your fortune is affected

as boats offshore attest
