total faith in trains

sometimes to entertain

I ponder travel in a train

are the sleepers sound

or by white ants gleely ground?

is the pounding on the rails

working loose the nails?

will there be a sudden wall

over which the train will fall?

will the rails start to distort

or the tunnel be too short?

were the the traffic lights to drop

would the vehicles still stop?

will the fuel see journey's end

or stop around the bend?

will the carriages unhitch

and leave us in the ditch

it's really quite a stress

on the 5 o'clock express

but people coalesce

in stainless eagerness

it certainly appears

that they trust the engineers
