Rush and Adept were Cousins

Rush Rodeo, from Knocksville school

cared less for gain than ride

Cousin Adept, most patient

rode by Rush's side

They looked down on the prairie

knowledge totem poles to seek

spread as far as the eye emitting

promises unique

Adept was swept clear off her mount

in the turbulence of Rush's course

he off to capture totems.....

She climbed back on her horse

She watched him as he sweated

tagging every one he could

till sundown, tired, a bit confused

"I'll return" she knew he would

At sunup down the hill they rode

pursuing respective visions

she had quiet in the shady bits.......

he had several collisions

She lost sight of who she was

and delved deeper than she knew

one totem pole had caught her mind

which led on to a few

He lost to sight of who he was

pursued by his own dust

knowing briefly totems all

elapsing as he must

They'd both had their successes

they talked into the night

Adept told of her hungers first

then Rush told his till light

"I want to experience everything

and see beyond flat ledge"

"take care" said she adeptly

"and don't fall off the edge"

"Personally I'll specialise

and add to the world's great feats

get qualified and absolve myself

from mammon's balance sheets

then I'll be free to wander

over prairies far and near

and even take sabatical

with no commercial fear"

"It's fear I actually relish

it's ...not knowing.....then you know

stability's for stable folk

no way for me to go!"

"When you've solved your territory

and still want a degree of travel

I'll hitch the flying horse for us

and new territory I'll unravel

I'll show you lands unknown to you

of which I know a bit

pick a totem seen not before

and delve right into it

See you later cousin

I'm back into the throng

of unknowable adventurous outcomes

Is either one of us wrong?"
