Farmer News
On the farm we're isolated
so we watch the nightly news ........
not ...actually every night
we might have missed a few
the day the cows got liberty
and we chased them roundabout
through Jacko's place and back again
how did they get out?
several times the tractor broke
and left us wondering why
under stars with lamplight
in the paddock high and dry
the time the genny let us down
so we milked the cows by hand
we had to ease the pressure
the cows can't udderstand
the day one of the jerseys herd
broke the fence and scarred her coat
what's worse got in the lucerne
over-ate and got the bloat
sometimes to test your schedule
you get those kind of days
seven o'clock but I had to move
the irrigation sprays
the night the buyers turned up home
with a ruling on our peas
we want larger, rounder cheaper
and we were on our knees
to eradicate the thistle
before we set our seed
we scoured the paddocks all night long
to guarantee our feed
the day that I was summonsed
the bank asked me into town
they said I'd either have to sell
or get the loans right down
the time I got enebriated
and I couldn't find the farm;
through debt and drought Jacko cracked
and did himself some harm
last night I'd planned my feet up
with a coffee and some books
but I had to get the shotgun out
cos the foxes ate the chooks
but tonight I sat down aching
and finally watched the news I like
nurses, workers, city folk
calling out 'let's strike'
