Oh to play a major unobserved mistruth and win the day!
It seemed so thin, dishevelled, matted, condition dull
How he 'd gone to lukewarm effort to disguise a patch of skull
An almost matching hairpiece projected from head bereft
He 'd bought a tuft from Myers to complement what's left
The suit may be exclusive but it doesn't sit quite right
The belly lurches perilously over a belt that seems too tight
His face is red with overdo his lifestyle's taken toll
The picture paints man, eminent; dispossessed of self control
His cough disclosed his habit and his raspy voice was loud
And full of self-importance in his performance to the crowd
Buying people, justice, it's who you know not what
If I could use my chequebook, I would do than rather not
The credo of the fat cat is 'the chequebook answers all'
I never actually do things save my signature I scrawl
Don't ask me to extend myself or say that I'm too big
I can solve the problem with a corset and wig
My summing-up speech comes round 'will I get away with it?'
It depends on how I've sussed my friend and judge, my timing, falsehoods, wit
I believed in justice; to lie was contraband
Now I misrepresent and colour and intimidate the stand
But when I hear the others lie I'm indignant and shout 'no way!'
Oh to play a major unobserved mistruth and win the day!
I go home to my respite where my wife and kids and dog are
They have no idea what I do, they just know the suit and car
I want to educate my kids to win, and I'll show them how
But I'm busy, far too busy, to enlighten them just now
The process must be gradual they're still so fresh and pure
And I don't think they've evaluated if my ethics are obscure.
"Children consider your daily bread and reputation, win
Watch and learn and listen, read the casebooks it's written in
You must never stop to re-assess for you might change your mind.
So bolster your behaviour by seeking your own kind."
What has happened to my life and controls this syllabus
does my body play too large a part ? Perhaps I'm bested thus.
My appearance shows I'm affluent, and ruthless thank you ma'am
I know I have the knowledge but can't remember who I am.
